The journal may refuse or remove an advertisement at any time if it is subsequently determined to be inappropriate or inconsistent with this policy.

4. Separation from Editorial Decision-Making

Advertising has no influence whatsoever on editorial decision-making.

Advertisers, sponsors, or other commercial entities cannot influence:

  • manuscript acceptance or rejection;

  • peer-review decisions;

  • reviewer selection;

  • editorial appointments;

  • publication timing;

  • article content;

  • corrections or retractions; or

  • any other editorial decision.

Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, relevance, originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and the results of the journal's editorial and peer-review processes.

This separation between advertising and editorial decision-making is consistent with the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing established by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.

5. Responsibility for Advertising Decisions

Decisions regarding whether an advertisement is accepted, rejected, modified, or removed are made by the Publisher and/or an authorized member of the journal's management team, independently of the editorial decision-making process.

The Editor-in-Chief and editorial reviewers do not accept or reject manuscripts based on advertising relationships.

Where an advertisement raises an ethical, legal, or reputational concern, the journal may consult appropriate members of the publisher or journal management before making a final decision.

6. Placement of Advertisements

Advertisements must be clearly distinguishable from scholarly content.

Advertisements will not be presented in a manner that could reasonably cause readers to believe that an advertisement is:

  • an editorial article;

  • a peer-reviewed research article;

  • an editorial decision;

  • an endorsement by the editors; or

  • part of the scholarly content of the journal.

Advertising placement will be determined independently of the editorial evaluation of manuscripts.

Where advertisements are displayed on the journal website, they may be placed in designated areas that are visually separated from scholarly content.

7. Advertising and Published Articles

Advertisements will not be placed within scholarly articles in a manner that could interfere with the interpretation or presentation of the research.

Advertisements will remain separate from:

  • research articles;

  • review articles;

  • editorials;

  • peer-review materials;

  • corrections;

  • retractions;

  • editorial notices; and

  • other scholarly content.

The presence of an advertisement does not constitute endorsement of the advertised product, service, organization, or claim by COMMUNIA, its editors, reviewers, or publisher.

8. Targeting and Display of Advertisements

Where online advertising is used, advertisements may be displayed according to appropriate technical or platform-based mechanisms.

COMMUNIA does not permit advertisers to influence editorial content or the visibility of individual scholarly articles through advertising arrangements.

Where applicable, advertisements may be displayed based on general website placement, relevant readership, or other legitimate technical criteria.

Advertising placement must not be used to manipulate readers' access to or interpretation of scholarly content.

Advertising arrangements will not be used to create a misleading impression concerning:

  • journal ownership;

  • editorial independence;

  • journal quality;

  • academic accreditation;

  • peer-review standards; or

  • publication outcomes.

The journal's revenue sources, including advertising where applicable, are separate from editorial decision-making.

Any advertiser is solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of its advertising material.

COMMUNIA may require appropriate disclaimers where necessary to prevent readers from interpreting an advertisement as an editorial or institutional endorsement.

12. Review and Removal of Advertisements

All advertisements may be reviewed before publication.

  • reject an advertisement;

  • request modifications;

  • suspend an advertisement;

  • remove an advertisement;
